Encaustic Painting

Currently with my work in encaustic, I’ve been pushing and exploring the  process:  how I put it down and where I can take it.  Sometimes I put down layers of color and then dig back to reveal some of what is hidden which creates a new context and new relationships. Other times I build textures and move the color around to dramatize the textures. I am feeling my way and practicing trusting my instincts, then working with what transpires. Ultimately I’m searching for resolution, balance, and harmony.

Starting a new piece is a bit like the first day of school with a brand new bright yellow, finely sharpened pencil.  I’m full of hope, excitement, and I  can’t wait to make the first mark.  Then, I put the point down and the process begins.
